How’d you like it? Anything you liked/hated about them? If you owned one but don’t anymore, would you want another one?

I have a 293k miles ‘98 LS400 and absolutely love it. I imagine the SC is just my car with 2 less doors.

I think they at least have the same powertrain. How’s the engine/transmission?

How much does it cost to change the timing belt?

So ‘97 was the year that they updated the 1uz. Gave it more hp and a 5 speed(check to make sure thats right). I drive the car pretty hard and have had no problems with the engine. The transmission is going to get replaced here soon due to a phantom vibration/dragging when cold/not wanting to shift gears while cold(liek 30 degrees or less cold) but it’s great. I get about 25 mpg on the freeway(heavier car) when doing speed limit and around 22 mpg when driving my speed. Around town it says I’m getting around 18-20 but like I said I’m not grannying the car around.

lol I’ve never had to pay to get it done. My dad owns a Toyota/Lexus repair shop so we just order the parts and get it done. I’ll text him and ask.

Loved mine. But you already knew that.

Drivetrain was still going strong at 210K when I crashed. Also keep in mind the last 20k miles of its life were REAL hard miles.

You ever had the timing belt replaced? How much did it cost, if you don’t mind my asking.

A huge red flag with the one I’m looking at is the fact that the current owners haven’t changed the timing belt yet and “don’t know” how many miles it had when they got it.

Nope, in the 2 years I had it only did the spark plugs and alternator.

But I also bought the car maintenance unknown and it had the worst previous owners. Like no center stack, non-working heat/AC/radio. And the door panels were held in with 10 random screws and a bracket made from an old license plate.

So I doubt the same kind of person would keep up on scheduled maintenance.

Timing belt FULL service would be around a grand. Might need a couple tensioners but well worth the money.

Figures. They always get replaced at the same time.

If we do get the Lexus, I’m definitely going to get the timing belt replaced ASAP. If they say it’s good for 200,000 miles, so be it. I don’t want a ticking time bomb, but I want an SC400!

I have a 95 SC400 with 104k miles on the clock. It’s not bad, pretty comfortable, and sounds great with magnaflow mufflers. The rear right tire wears out quite quickly so if anybody has any pointers on that I would appreciate it. I got the alignment done too and it helped a little but still noticeable.

Unfortunately between my s2000, 08 328i wagon, and commuter prius (it’s a wonderful car don’t hate), I put like 3k miles on it a year.
